“IF A DOULA WERE A DRUG, IT WOULD BE UNETHICAL NOT
TO USE IT.”
~JOHN H. KENNELL, MD
A birth doula is a person trained and experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth.
The word “doula” comes from ancient Greek, meaning “Woman’s servant”. Throughout history and in much of the world today, a cadre of women support a woman through labor and birth, giving back rubs and providing continuous emotional support.
A doula provides support and uninterrupted care for a woman in labour. I meet with the mother and her partner a few times before the birth. I will be in contact with you during early labor and will come and be with you when your labour has started establishing into active labour. I will accompany both you and your partner throughout labor and delivery. I will provide physical and emotional support, comfort and pain-coping measures, encouragement, and aid your partner in being able to support you to the best of his ability. I will advocate for the mother and her partner and help them make informed decisions. After the birth, I will visit you at your home or hospital to see if you need to debrief the birth or aid you with any resources you may need during the postpartum period.
I deeply understand, trust, and respect the process of labour and birth. My goal is to support the emotional and physical journey of the mother and her partner. At all times I strive to provide the best possible experience for the family that I am supporting and ease their transition into parenthood.

Beautiful sculpture of an unassisted birth – origin unknown
“I attended a birth with Moran recently and was automatically comforted by her presence, I couldn’t speak highly enough of her as a doula and recommend her to anyone I come across who is considering a doula. Moran was an incredible source of both strength and nurturing and it was an honour to work in her presence.”
“There are no words that can measure up to the reality of what Moran gave to our family as our doula and dear friend. We were young parents-to-be seeking support and knowledge entering into the biggest journey of our lives and we began the hypnobirthing classes with Moran to gain the tools to have the natural birth we wanted. She has created a beautiful environment in her cosy office and her energy is so warm and friendly. Me and my husband both felt comfortable with her straightaway and felt she truly cared about us and our experience.
We finished the classes with a very comprehensive set of knowledge about the emotional and physical aspects of birth, techniques to cope with the pain of labour and our options and rights navigating birth in a hospital environment. To this day I truly believe I would have had a completely different birth if it wasn’t for Moran.
She came to us at 2am in the morning when I had contractions and from then to when I delivered my son 8 hours later, she was my absolute rock. I still remember holding on to her and hearing her empowering words when I need to the most. She got me through every moment I felt like giving up. She is such a great support for dads too, my husband felt more confident and had the right tools to support me after the education we received. The hypnobirthing training also came together and helped me to cope with the pain during labour and achieve the natural, drug free water birth I wanted.
After the birth, Moran was very professional and quick with her process of placenta encapsulation and paid us a lovely postpartum visit at home too.
I could not recommend her enough to anyone who’s looking for support on the life changing journey of pregnancy and birth. She will be the best and most invaluable decision you make. For me, I had a lot of doubt and fears as a first time parent and she really made me believe in myself and my ability to be a mother. Thankyou Moran. I will forever remember you as part of the biggest day of my life and will be telling my son stories of the woman that helped me bring him into the world in the most beautiful way.”
