Closing of the Bones:
A Sacred Journey of Healing and Rebirth
History and Origins:
The “Closing of the Bones” ceremony has a rich history deeply embedded in the cultural traditions of various indigenous communities, particularly in Central and South America. This sacred practice was traditionally performed by midwives and elder women to honour and support new mothers after childbirth. It was believed that childbirth left a woman’s body open and vulnerable, and this ceremony helped to “close” the physical and energetic spaces that had been opened, fostering recovery and well-being. Beyond its postpartum roots, the ceremony has evolved and is now embraced for its profound healing properties, applicable to anyone seeking deep physical, emotional, and spiritual renewal.
What to Expect During the Ceremony:
When you choose to experience the Closing of the Bones ceremony, you are entering a sanctuary of healing and transformation. I will guide you through a multi-faceted process designed to nurture and restore your body, mind, and spirit.
- Welcoming and Setting the Intention:
- The ceremony begins with a warm welcome, creating a safe and sacred space for your healing journey. You will be invited to set a personal intention, whether it’s for physical recovery, emotional release, or spiritual connection.
- Gentle Binding and Wrapping:
- During the ceremony I will be using special cloths or wraps, the I will gently bind and support various parts of your body, such as your hips, abdomen, and chest. This binding process is symbolic and practical, helping to bring a sense of closure and containment to your physical form. It supports the realignment of your body’s structure and promotes a feeling of being held and supported.
- Rebozo Techniques:
- The rebozo, a woven shawl, is used to gently rock and massage different areas of your body. This practice not only helps to release physical tension but also enhances circulation and realigns the body’s energy. The rhythmic movements of the rebozo can evoke a sense of being cradled, providing profound comfort and relaxation.
- Aromatherapy:
- Essential oils are incorporated into the ceremony to enhance the healing process. You may experience the soothing and calming scents of aromatherapy. These elements work synergistically to relax your muscles, soothe your mind, and promote overall well-being.
- Heat Therapy:
- Warmth is often applied to specific areas of the body using hot stones, warm towels, or heat packs. Heat therapy aids in relaxing tight muscles, relieving pain, and enhancing the overall sense of relaxation and healing.
- Meditation and Guided Reflection:
- Throughout the ceremony, there are moments of guided meditation and reflection. These practices allow you to connect deeply with your inner self, fostering emotional healing and mental clarity. You may be guided through visualisation exercises or given time for silent introspection.
- Closing Ritual:
- The ceremony concludes with a closing ritual, solidifying the healing and transformations that have taken place. The wraps are gently removed, and you are invited to share any reflections or insights you’ve gained during the process.
